The Gospel

God’s Story of Redemption
is central to Sojourn Montrose Church.

God, the Holy Creator

The triune God created a perfect world for His glory. As our holy and sovereign Maker, He is the source of all life, beauty, and authority, deserving our total worship and obedience.

Genesis 1:1; Revelation 4:11; Colossians 1:16-17

Our Rebellion and Ruin

Though created in God’s image, we all chose to rebel against His Lordship. This sin has fractured our lives, our world, and our relationship with Him, leaving us spiritually dead and justly under His holy judgment.

Genesis 3; Romans 3:23; Romans 5:12; Ephesians 2:1-3

Christ the Sufficient Substitute

Out of sheer grace, God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, fully God and fully man, to do for us what we could never do. Jesus lived a life of perfect obedience, died on the cross to pay the full penalty for our sins, and rose physically from the grave, defeating Satan, sin, and death.

2 Corinthians 5:21; 1 Peter 3:18; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4

Grace Received through Faith

Salvation is a gift that cannot be earned by our efforts or religious devotion. We are justified by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, as we repent of our sins and trust in His finished work. Repentance and belief (or trust) in Jesus and his work are how one becomes a Christian.

Ephesians 2:8-9; Romans 10:9; Galatians 2:16

The Restored Life

Through the Holy Spirit, God makes us new, bringing us into His family, called the Church. We are now sent out on mission to live for His glory, seeking the lost and telling them the good news of Jesus as we await the day Christ returns to make all things new.

Ezekiel 36:26-27; 2 Corinthians 5:17-20; Revelation 21:5
